Robocall madness: It’s time to stop the scams and abuse
In a letter to the ranking members of the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology and Committee on Energy and Commerce, advocates announced their support of the bipartisan Stopping Bad Robocalls Act (H.R. 3375). They urged legislators to support the bill without amendments in order to stop the abuse all Americans endure through robocall violations.
The bipartisan Stopping Bad Robocalls Act would outlaw several technologies and methods fraudsters use to scam consumers over the phone and through text message. If approved, the bill would make it easier for the government to go after scammers and issue tougher penalties. Advocates are applauding the legislation, highlighting that it will require that telemarketers, debt collectors, and others actually stop making the calls that are harassing Americans and devaluing the American telephone system.
